Inspired from afar.

I have always felt a high level of gratitude making people smile and inspiring them to work hard for the things they believe in. I have daily, monthly, yearly and lifetime goals to attain and the most important one is to always be able to look back on the prior day and be able to say I enjoyed it.

I can honestly say I enjoy every day, I make sure of it. Today I feel overwhelmingly gracious towards a certain person who has impacted my life in such a beautiful way. That being said, the following is the very first (and hopefully one of many) guest posts I have been gifted by someone who inspires me on a daily basis.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you GS for writing such an extraordinarily inspiring piece for The Basic Bish.

I asked GS to write about inspiration, passion, and what motivates him and this was his guest post:

Happiness: Chasing vs. Choosing

“Today expect something good to happen to you no matter what occurred yesterday. Realize the past no longer holds you captive. It can only continue to hurt you if you hold on to it. Let the past go. A simply abundant world awaits.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

What an amazing world we live in! We are living in a time of extraordinary devices and capabilities. You would think with the world at our finger tips that it would be a whole lot easier to be happy. You would think happiness would be at an all-time high, rather than a record-breaking low. The unfortunate fact is, that as far as humanity has come in terms of technological advancements, and transforming our lives to that of convenience and luxury; the vast majority of people in this world are living well below their means in terms of happiness.

The root of the issue is that many people chase happiness through external sources. They think that once they get that dream car, job, or “perfect” partner, that they’ll be happy. External sources can only bring us fleeting happiness; the kind that fades in time. This chase for happiness is backwards thinking that we must break. In order to experience lasting happiness, we must make the conscious choice to be happy! Happiness is an inside job! It is a feeling within you. Realize you have the power to change your world by staying committed to choosing over chasing.

By making the conscious decision to be happy in your current situation, you’re taking the first step to realizing lasting happiness. It is vital to accept yourself as is, and build your life around habits that support your happiness. The habits you want to develop are habits that induce positive personal growth. I find it easiest to break down the areas of growth into mind, body, and spirit. Make improving yourself in these areas a top priority in life. Growth in these areas is what will support your lasting happiness. An example of three great habits to develop are daily exercise, journaling, and meditation. If you can develop habits like these that support positive growth of your mind, body, and spirit, you’ll quickly realize you have everything it takes within yourself to accomplish anything that your heart desires.

Of course this journey won’t be easy, as life will always throw obstacles and challenges at you when you least expect it. Life will surely test your will. But you must learn to relish these challenges, and embrace the uncertainty. Every time you get knocked down, expect to rebound. Expect to rebound higher than you’ve ever been. Stay committed to the choice and avoid chasing. There is so much beauty to life when you make the shift to lasting happiness through choice, rather than fleeting happiness through external sources. I promise you will be amazed.

Life is completely what you make of it; so stay committed to the DECISION to be happy, and strive to live a big, positive life; your future self will surely thank you later!

You only live once; but if you do it right, once is enough.

2016 is the year of me. No “resolutions” are necessary, no expectations = no disappointments.

I have come to the realization that a person can only be responsible for their own actions and their own choices. Yes, I was well aware of this before but now it has a whole new meaning.

My biggest challenge is my own. This year I need to focus on recharging myself, my core. One of my flaws is that I fail to recognize the appropriate level of “closeness” I have to other people. I tried so hard to fit in, I forgot how amazing it is to stand out. I let people in closer than I should, I let myself get hurt by the ones I love. I push away people because I reach a point of no return and I don’t know how to take a step back before I hit that point.

This year, that is going to be different.
