Dignity Bags Guest Post

As you can see, lately I have been posting guest pieces that I have been so graciously blessed with. The piece I am going to be sharing with you tonight is nothing short of amazing.

I stumbled upon an Instagram profile recently that I just couldn’t ignore. The selflessness and good hearted spirit this woman possesses is absolutely unfathomable. She has a name, it’s Lolly Galvin and she’s doing her part not only to inspire other people by her actions but also to help the people who need it most. I’ll let her do the honours of explaining her story and what she’s doing to make her mark on this world because there is no way I could assemble the right words to do it justice.

I asked Lolly to write about her experience, her project, and how it makes her feel. This is what Lolly sent me, nothing short of inspiring to say the least!

Dignity Bags:

A little over a month ago, I discovered the live-streaming app, periscope. I downloaded it and tuned into different people from around the world broadcasting from their living rooms, the beach, or from a night out at the bar. Later that day I did a broadcast. During my first broadcast I had a ton of viewers, and thought maybe I could use this app as a platform to do random acts of kindness.

My plan became to start a gofundme account and tell strangers who tuned into my broadcast what I planned on doing. I set the goal at $500 and did not honestly think I would reach it.  After all, why would strangers give me money? How would they trust someone they didn’t know to follow through on their promise to give to others. The donations came in slowly at first. I remember being absolutely thrilled at being halfway there. Looking at that $250 dollars had me thinking maybe people are more willing to give then we give them credit for.
Within three days, I had reached the goal. After reaching the goal, I decided to do the first act of kindness. I walked the streets of Philadelphia looking for a homeless person with the intention of taking them out to lunch. Feeling both nervous and awkward, I leaned down next to a man on Broad Street. “Would you like to go to lunch with me?” I said leaning down at his side. Our lunch was both easy and enjoyable. He shared his struggles, passion, and his life.
Through sharing his story, more and more people got involved. Dignity Bags have become a movement spreading to LA, Vermont, Florida, and Maryland. It’s a beautiful thing to see humanity coming together. My biggest belief is that humans are wired to help each other. Once we all realize we’re in this together, our lives will drastically change. My hope is to shine light on this fact.
This morning we reached $2,000 so I made a bold decision to increase the goal to $5,000. If I reach the goal I will live in an RV for 2 weeks and travel the United States handing out Dignity Bags to the homeless. I’ll share their stories, and ask people who follow me on social media to join in. I cannot imagine the amount of impact this journey could make.
I’ve learned so many things from spending time with the homeless. I’ve learned that they’re quite similar to me. I’m an outgoing person, I talk to people from all different walks of life but I realized at 31 years old I have never carried out a conversation with a homeless person. I felt ashamed, but also curious about why. The stigma is so real, it affected me without my knowledge.

Overall, we’re lucky for the things we complain about. Being cold, tired, or hungry momentarily is a daily struggle. for these people. My heart feels the pain every time they smile in excitement over a bar of soap. However, it encourages me to keep on giving because no one deserves to be invisible. We’re all in this together, and this experience has taught me how true this statement is.

Harry Chaos Clothing Guest Post

What an amazing week this has been, although it’s been very hectic at work I have had some of the greatest support from people that inspire me on a daily basis.

The following guest post is from Harry Chaos Clothing, an Australian made brand with to die for apparel. Sean, the creator for Harry Chaos is such inspiration to me because of the way you can see his passions for life through his brand and photos.

Sean, I am so gracious for your contribution to the blog and our flourishing friendship through the process. Thank you for your spreading positive vibes with The Basic Bish!

I asked Sean to write about what he is passionate about, here’s his inspiring piece:

My name is Sean Anderson, creator of Harry Chaos Clothing. An Aussie made lifestyle brand from Melbourne in Victoria, Australia.

I grew up in a rural town (Ballarat, Victoria) with my parents and two brothers.
We didn’t exactly have a lot of money growing up, but our family was much richer in other aspects of our lives.

We got to spend a lot of time with each other on family holidays. Going to places like the Murray River, Nelson Bay and Portland, mainly to see family a few times a year. We also played a lot of sport, which our parents were always there.

Needless to say we had a rad child hood, and as you grow older you come to realize that family out weighs money, any day of the week. I’m more than grateful for life our parents gave us.

The one thing I hated most about not having much money was “HAND ME DOWN CLOTHES” HAHA! I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there that know what it’s like to run second hand clothes from their older siblings!

So one day when I was around the age of 15, my Mum took me to the local skate/surf shop to get some new t-shirts, I was stoked. But, being a skinny kid I struggled to find a good tee that fit me the way I wanted it too, I’m very picky when it comes to clothes. I remember standing in the shop looking around thinking “how good would it be to have my own clothing label”

Something I can create for myself that i’d actually like to wear. It was a dream!

When I finished school I also wanted to be a graphic designer, but I was terrible at learning. If I wasn’t excited about it, and couldn’t concentrate, my mind would always wonder.
By the time I finished school, I got an enter score of 21, which was too low to get into graphic design…..shit!!

I was stuck and didn’t know what to do, so I took the easy way out and became a tradesman. Terrible idea!

So after 12 years of being a plasterer, I bit the bullet and created

‘Harry Chaos Clothing’ something I had dreamt about for half my life. I had no idea how to start or run a company, but I just had to start.

All day, everyday I think about how I can better my brand and my future, I love it! Being able to creat on a daily basis, and getting people tell me they love my brand is an amazing feeling. I’m just a disappointed in myself for not making it happen sooner, but I never regret the past, it is what it is!
I could go on forever about my brand and my dreams, but that would take way too long.

The moral of this story, if you have a dream, don’t wait for it to happen. You have to go out and make it happen, do what it takes to see that dream come alive. Start today, don’t waist another moment.

As the old saying goes “TIME WAITS FOR NO MAN”

Sean Anderson

Time. A measurement, a way of keeping schedule, a memory of an event from the past, that thing that prevents you from showing up for a flight whenever you feel like it.

The world needs time don’t get me wrong, but it is not an excuse. Timing isn’t everything. If it really was everything I believe your birth certificate would include a time of death so you could schedule your life accordingly.

Let’s be real about this. A watch used to tell people the time, now it’s a fashion accessory. How many of us have a watch on and still look at our cell phone for the time? A watch is a statement to some, if it wasn’t why would anyone buy a Michael Kors watch for 350$ instead of one at Walmart for 10$ they do the exact same thing. The minutes don’t move any faster or slower on a more expensive one and I can honestly say my watch has read the same time for months, last  I checked I wasn’t frozen or driving my delorean.

Time also cannot heal wounds, if it did this there would be a setting on your oven, phone, and computer. My phone didn’t come with an app that I could set to heal a broken heart, or mourn the loss of a loved one. People decide how long those things take, it’s not the minutes that have gone by, it’s the things we occupy our mind with.

I can’t schedule my life around the remaining minutes I have left, but I can arrive at Starbucks when it opens. I will no longer accept the excuse “it was just bad timing.” If you find the love of your life, you’ll prioritize your schedule to include them in your life, if you don’t you shouldn’t be upset when you decide it’s convenient for you and they’re with someone else. If your boss tells you to be at work at 8 but you like to sleep until noon, you’ll change your schedule or lose the job.

Although an hour is always 60 minutes when you look back it seems like it flew by. Make your dreams come true, get the girl, take that vacation you always wanted to, see the things you want to see. Be happy and live for today because you never know when your time is up.

Inspired from afar.

I have always felt a high level of gratitude making people smile and inspiring them to work hard for the things they believe in. I have daily, monthly, yearly and lifetime goals to attain and the most important one is to always be able to look back on the prior day and be able to say I enjoyed it.

I can honestly say I enjoy every day, I make sure of it. Today I feel overwhelmingly gracious towards a certain person who has impacted my life in such a beautiful way. That being said, the following is the very first (and hopefully one of many) guest posts I have been gifted by someone who inspires me on a daily basis.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you GS for writing such an extraordinarily inspiring piece for The Basic Bish.

I asked GS to write about inspiration, passion, and what motivates him and this was his guest post:

Happiness: Chasing vs. Choosing

“Today expect something good to happen to you no matter what occurred yesterday. Realize the past no longer holds you captive. It can only continue to hurt you if you hold on to it. Let the past go. A simply abundant world awaits.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

What an amazing world we live in! We are living in a time of extraordinary devices and capabilities. You would think with the world at our finger tips that it would be a whole lot easier to be happy. You would think happiness would be at an all-time high, rather than a record-breaking low. The unfortunate fact is, that as far as humanity has come in terms of technological advancements, and transforming our lives to that of convenience and luxury; the vast majority of people in this world are living well below their means in terms of happiness.

The root of the issue is that many people chase happiness through external sources. They think that once they get that dream car, job, or “perfect” partner, that they’ll be happy. External sources can only bring us fleeting happiness; the kind that fades in time. This chase for happiness is backwards thinking that we must break. In order to experience lasting happiness, we must make the conscious choice to be happy! Happiness is an inside job! It is a feeling within you. Realize you have the power to change your world by staying committed to choosing over chasing.

By making the conscious decision to be happy in your current situation, you’re taking the first step to realizing lasting happiness. It is vital to accept yourself as is, and build your life around habits that support your happiness. The habits you want to develop are habits that induce positive personal growth. I find it easiest to break down the areas of growth into mind, body, and spirit. Make improving yourself in these areas a top priority in life. Growth in these areas is what will support your lasting happiness. An example of three great habits to develop are daily exercise, journaling, and meditation. If you can develop habits like these that support positive growth of your mind, body, and spirit, you’ll quickly realize you have everything it takes within yourself to accomplish anything that your heart desires.

Of course this journey won’t be easy, as life will always throw obstacles and challenges at you when you least expect it. Life will surely test your will. But you must learn to relish these challenges, and embrace the uncertainty. Every time you get knocked down, expect to rebound. Expect to rebound higher than you’ve ever been. Stay committed to the choice and avoid chasing. There is so much beauty to life when you make the shift to lasting happiness through choice, rather than fleeting happiness through external sources. I promise you will be amazed.

Life is completely what you make of it; so stay committed to the DECISION to be happy, and strive to live a big, positive life; your future self will surely thank you later!

Don’t get stuck.

Don’t get stuck. Move, travel, take a class, take a risk. There is a season for wildness, and a season for settledness, and this is neither. This season is about becoming. Don’t lose yourself at happy hour, but don’t lose yourself on the corporate ladder either. Stop every once in a while and go out for coffee or climb in bed with your journal. Now is your time. Walk closely with people you love. Don’t get stuck in the past, and don’t try to fast forward yourself into a future you haven’t yet earned. Give today all the love and intensity and courage you can, and keep traveling along honestly along life’s path.

Over the last few months I’ve decided to really put a lot of effort into making the things I want to happen come to life.

Not only in personal progress and goals, but in my passions and the things that inspire me. One of which is inspiring others. If you’ve stumbled across this blog you will see an array of quotes, photos, and posts about the things that matter to me.

I’ve often struggled to muster up the courage to make these dreams reality but in realizing this I’ve accomplished more than I could have desired.

Over the next few months you will find guest blog posts from people that not only inspire me but motivate others to reach their goals. It took a lot of courage but I’ve approached a few of these individuals and I am overwhelmed with the support I’ve received thus far.

Reach for the stars. The fear of failure is easily defeated when you accept rejection as part of your struggle.

Prediction SB50.

Today I had the opportunity to guest post my Super Bowl prediction for a friend of mine from Atlanta. Make sure to check out his amazing Sports Blog at:

His dreams to be a Sportscaster for ESPN align with mine to do the same. Here’s what I wrote for him:

4:30 MST today we will have the privilege of watching Super Bowl 50. Levi’s Stadium will be hosting the biggest sporting event of 2016.
For years I have followed Peyton Manning on his quest to gain more glistening rings to add to his collection. I embraced the two losses he faced with his last two appearances throwing a pick six in both games. This year however I have faith that #18 will gain his well deserved Super Bowl ring.
My 5 time MVP star of the NFL will be facing the Carolina Panthers this afternoon in what should be one hell of a game.
Prediction: Denver Broncos 20-17
This has been a great year for the Broncos and I believe that they will squeak out the win over the Panthers and Peyton will end his career on top.

Defensively we have Wade Phillips who has a game plan to completely shut down the run game of Carolina. Phillips has his defensive team ready to show up the Panthers and assist 39 year old Manning and the team to Denver’s ultimate 3rd time Super Bowl championship.
We have the renowned pass-rushing pair Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware who will definitely put the Panthers in a frenzy. My guess is Cam Newton won’t know what hit him. Not to mention Derek Wolfe and Malik Jackson holding up the inside and the corners locking up down the field.
A late game turnover for Denver is my prediction as well. I believe Manning is one of the all time greats who now has an ultimate defense.

Let’s go Manning, watch him win the Lombardi trophy for the second time as well as Super Bowl 50.
The anticipation is killing me! Counting down the minutes to kick off!

My team is playing today so I feel they deserve a mention here. My Twitter is exploding with all my tweets about SuperBowl predictions, if you care to join in the conversation you will find me @basicbishblog or on Instagram @mzjessicaxo

Let’s Go Broncos!
